How much willpower do I have?
Cycle 6 of America’s Next Top Model starts next Wednesday, March 8. I tried to boycott the end of last season after they voted Kyle off. It was a travesty.
Oh that note, I am considering watching less TV. I have done it in the past. In fact I used to get my cable cut off from May to September of every year. However, cable is included in the LKC rent and I pay extra to get the upper channels I love like Bravo, Showcase and a bunch of Movie Central stations. I justify this extra expense as being far more economical than getting rid of my TV and just renting videos or buying TV series on DVDs.
So then I needed to start thinking about shows I would let myself watch still. The L Word, Rollergirls and the Gilmore Girls are obvious choices. But then what about all those crime type dramas I enjoy periodically - you know - Crossing Jordan, Law and Order(s), CSI, Medium, Without a Trace, and so on.
And then you have the shows that only play a few times each year like Entourage. Or all the home and restaurant renovation shows I need to watch for when I buy my own home and restaurant. How will I learn? Or the tips I pick from up from What Not to Wear - they really benefit everyone.
So this all makes me think that while the non-TV world sounds like a nice dream, why remove things from my life that I really enjoy? And how much time would I spend pouring over the TV listings to make sure I didn’t any of the shows I am ‘allowing’ myself to watch. Seems like a lot of work. And do I really want to be that pure? Doesn’t sound like me really.
